孤山——The Solitary Hill

Today in the lake , there is one natural island , two causeways and three artificial island. To our left , that is the only natural island ,the Solitary Hill. The Solitary Hill sits in the northern part of the lake and is the home of many important tourist attractions, such as the Palace of the Qing emperors, WenLan Ge library , XiLin Bridge and so on . On the hill , there have a Pavilion called Crane Pavilion .This pavilion was built for Lin Hejin who was a Northern Song Dynasty poet .

西泠桥——The XiLin Bridge

Now, the boat is moving . Do you see the bridge over there ? That is the XinLin Bridge . It is one of the three ‘bridge of love’ . About 1100 years ago , Su XiaoXiao , a most famous geisha in Five Dynasties met her lover Ruan Yu on the bridge. They fell in love with each other . But the boy’s father thought it improper for his son to marry a geisha . Su XiaoXiao waited in great expectation to get married with the boy , but nothing happened . It was such a big shock that she fell sick . A typical tragedy, isn’t it ? In the Pavilion , there is the tomb of  Su XiaoXiao.

现在游船正继续向前行驶。大家看见那座桥了吗？那是西泠桥。它是三大情人桥之一。在大约1100多年前的五代时期，有一个非常有名的歌伎，名叫苏小小，她在这桥上遇到了她的心上人阮玉。他们两人一见钟情。但是阮玉的父亲却不同意自己的儿子与歌伎结婚。苏小小满心期待着能与阮玉结为夫妻，但始终没能如愿。这个巨大的打击使她一病不起。这真是一个典型的悲剧，不是吗？在那个亭子里，则是苏小小的墓。

西湖三怪——Three unusual nesses

There are three unusual nesses on the west lake . They are Broken Bridge , the Long Bridge and the Solitary Hill . Namely, the Broken Bridge is not broken, the Long Bridge is not long and the Solitary Hill is not solitary . We will see the Broken Bridge soon , located on the northern end of the Bai Causeways.

在西湖有三怪。他们分别是断桥，长桥和孤山。而事实上，断桥并不断，长桥也不长，而孤山并不孤独。很快我们就能看到位于白堤北端的断桥了。

楼外楼——Louwailou Restaurant

Here on the Solitary Hill , we can see the Louwailou Restaurant . Established in 1848 , it has been famed for the traditional delicacies of Hangzhou cuisine , such as Beggar’s Chicken , Dongpo Pork . If you wish , you may come here to try them out tomorrow on your own .

中山公园——The Zhongshan Park

On the right of the restaurant , you can find the Zhongshan Park , a park in memory of Sun Zhongshan who led the Revolution of 1911 , which toppled the Qing Dynasty .
